Fried Okra and Business Plans

Today I am grateful for my youth and to have known both of my grandmothers and one of my great grandmothers. I have been reading this book given to me by Carol Kurtz, volunteer extraordinaire to ACCA. This woman's book is kind of like what my blog has become. Some stories about life and random recipes that relate. I really have enjoyed reading about it and thinking about recipes to which I have strong memories connected. It's made me realize how luck I have been to have known both of my grandmothers. Below I will go into a recipe that Grandma Boozer was a huge fan of (and so was my dad). Mama Liz has really helped connect many dots about Snitzer women and has been a great asset to have around in life. She has her own blog, too, which I have begun to follow . I'm having a hard time organizing my thoughts for today's post because I have so many things on my mind. All good things, which I am also grateful for. No bad things. Well, first I'll share Grandma Booze

Baxter Boozer and Videos

Today I am grateful for technology. And to be able to afford it. Dad, Cheryl, Russell and I chatted via Google video chat tonight. It was wonderful! They got a tour of my home along with saying hello to their grandchildren, Ollie and Nani. :) Side note, we're going to be picking up recyclables at the UGA Sanford Stadium in November and Sarah and I got a very nice tour of the facility, including one nice sneak peak into the football team's locker stadium. Vury nice. GATA. Next project: learning to sew. I am reworking this cute dress and making it a little more "modern-day fashionable" but my sewing skills definitely leave room for improvement. But, once this little piece is done, I will surely be sporting it to work at ACCA .

Beer, Bikes, and New Dresses

Today I am grateful for free time and beer. After a somewhat crazy day, and while looking forward to a sure to be crazy day tomorrow, I finally get to sit down and enjoy a nice beer while I write! This weekend was fun-filled, for sure. It began with Stephanie and I going to Good Dirt and making ceramic pots on the wheel. We were the class clowns, as we continued making fun of each other throughout the teacher's lessons. Oh well. We were having fun. I love the photo of the garage door to Good Dirt. It seemed beautiful to me. One of my pots will be bottom-less. But, ah, such is life. On a related note: My original subject was beer and pots...but I didn't want to get the stinky eye from anyone. Hahaha Jennifer and Stephanie After our romantic evening at Doc Cheys and then Good Dirt, Stephanie and I met up with Jennifer, and then Paige and Jason. After a drink, Stephanie, Jennifer and I decided to run down to Highwire. This is when the bottom fell out of the sky and

Brakes and Drapes

Today I am grateful for the brakes in my car. Driving down Broad/Atlanta Highway today, just about to turn left on Hawthorne, I looked and all of the sudden two men were in front of my car. I literally almost hit them. I slammed on my brakes (luckily no one was behind me), honked my horn and swerved. I barely missed them. The look on the second man's face made me so angry: he was smiling while he jumped to dodge my car. I am so grateful that I did not hit those men. In other news....I finally got my stuff together and hung drapes in my kitchen. Now this is what I see when I eat: You'll notice I finally tried that pea soup recipe. and... YUM!

Bellydancing and Zonolite St.

Today I am grateful for many things:  birthdays, memories, being able to afford things I don't necessarily need.... I can finally release photos of Noel's birthday cake. Happy for that one. This cake literally has my sweat and tears in it. No blood...that's gross. I did get so frustrated at one point that I started crying. But, finished product, I think, looked better than it should've. I thank Paige for her help in this whole process. Her AC was a lifesaver. Last night was a lot of fun, as well. There were a lot of Noel's friends there. We finally got seated around 9:30....and Noel had already drank 3 mojitos. As soon as he sat down, Simon had bought him shots. Of course, he's so friendly, so he bought me one, too. Thanks, Simon. The night just kind of went downhill (in a good way) from there. Kat came out too!!! So happy that Russell came to dinner. It was nice to have some Boozers, Cruses, and Dollars all together. Tonight Noel and I went to Nicola&#

Risotto and Sonny Perdue

Today I am grateful that I woke up to Noel kissing me on the cheek as he was leaving. Today Sarah, Cheryl and I went to the ribbon cutting of the MCG/UGA Medical School Partnership. It was not as much hot as it was extremely humid...and I immediately drenched the dress that Julie gave me. I have never gotten so many comments about a dress before. I am grateful to Julie for giving me some great new clothes. My whole outfit today cost about 5 dollars. That doesn't count the underwear...but you can't count that because underwear is expensive. I love this great dress that Julie gave me, bottom line. This is a photo of Cheryl and I fake cutting the ribbon before the actual ribbon cutting.  I know my posts always involve food...but I love to cook. I found this recipe in a magazine and it was all about green food. Recipes for zucchini, pea soup and then this one were in the article.  Who can resist a big helping of spinach and goat cheese risotto made with vegetable stock and

Black beans and strangers

Today I am grateful for two things. One. Twice in the past two days I have seen strangers being kind to me. I got a call from a man who says he saw my name on our website at work and had to call and ask if I was 'the Claire boozer of the Snitzer family.' This man's parents are close friends of my grandparents. He not only knows my grandparents but also named my mom and dad. He lives here in athens and works with our office through referrals a lot. Small world! Second stranger: Lindsay, Will and I got back to her car last night to what looked like a ticket. Turned it over to reveal a note from a stranger that said she used to go to Camp Sunshine and now is a counselor there. She saw the license plate on Lindsay's car and had to leave a note. The bartender said she freaked when she saw the plate and was so excited. We had just missed her. I searched her name on Facebook and found nothing. Still pretty amazing. Second thing I am grateful for is that I won't have to wo

Athens and artichokes

Today I am grateful to live in Athens. ITs a small community but a great one. One where little ol me can get into the newspaper twice in one year. I'm not too excited about the photo they chose of me but there was no caption so hopefully the banner herald readers will not know it was me. http://onlineathens.com/stories/080210/liv_689380630.shtml Tonight Lindsay Will and I made paneer spinach and artichokes that we dipped in butter and bernaise. So delicious. And very round: Toby was quite jealous. He had a few leftovers, though. - Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone Location: Normal Ave,Athens-Clarke County,United States
